INTER_SECTION #3 - Borrowed Gesture
BORROWED GESTURE ist eine immersive Mehrkanal Video- und Klangperformance, die sich improvisatorisch mit Fragen zu Urheberschaft, Intention, Prozess und Kollektiv beschäftigt.
Das transmediale Duo INTER_SECTION - Sabine Ercklentz (Trompete, Elektronik) und Claudia Schmitz (Bewegtbild auf Skultpur, Elektronik, Unfolded Screen) - entwickelt mit wechselnden Gästen raumbezogene audiovisuelle Echtzeit Performances unter Einbeziehung gestischer und intermedialer Übertragungen.
Die Arbeit an Borrowed Gesture wurde während der Pandemie 2020 begonnen. Soziale Kontakten waren stark eingeschränkt, demgegenüber die Bedeutung digitaler Interaktionen gewachsen.
Für BORROWED GESTURE haben die beiden Künstlerinnen daher einen digitalen Akteur Das Dritte* eingeladen, ein Algorithmus, der in Echtzeit erhobene digitale Steuerdaten der Künstlerinnen verrechnet. Die Dritte* manifestiert sich in drei vom Algorithmus gesteuerten pneumatischen Skulpturen aus recyceltem Plastik. Die pneumatischen Skulpturen geben dem digitalen nicht menschlichen Mitspielenden einen physischen Körper - sowohl im Visuellen als auch akustischer Weise (mittels Kontaktmikrofonen).
Borrowed Gesture wurde in 3 Phasen realisiert.
The transmedia duo INTER_SECTION - Sabine Ercklentz (trumpet, electronics) and Claudia Schmitz (moving image on sculpture, electronics, unfolded screen) - develops space-related audiovisual real-time performances in collaboration with various guests, incorporating gestural and intermedial transmissions.
Work on Borrowed Gesture began during the 2020 pandemic. Social contact was severely restricted, while the importance of digital interactions grew. For BORROWED GESTURE, the two artists therefore invited a digital actor, ‘The Third,’ an algorithm that calculates the artists' digital control data collected in real time. The Third* manifests itself in three algorithm-controlled pneumatic sculptures made of recycled plastic. The pneumatic sculptures give the digital non-human co-player a physical body – both visually and acoustically (using contact microphones).
Borrowed Gesture was realised in 3 phases.

Für Borrowed Gesture expanded wird die Struktur des Algorithmus überarbeitet und seine Interaktionsmöglichkeiten innerhalb der Performance diversifiziert. Der Algorithmus wird jetzt neben der Steuerung der pneumatischen Skulpturen auch zur Klang- und Bildbearbeitung genutzt.
Die wechselseitige Bedingtheit von non-humanen und humanen Akteur:innen wird verstärkt in den Fokus gerückt, die Grenzen der Entitäten verschwimmen.
For Borrowed Gesture expanded, the structure of the algorithm has been revised and its interaction possibilities within the performance diversified. In addition to controlling the pneumatic sculptures, the algorithm is now also used for sound and image processing.
This brings the reciprocal conditionality of non-human and human actors into sharper focus, blurring the boundaries between entities.

Der Dritte* agiert zwischen den Handlungsabsichten der Performerinnen.
Die Performerinnen werden so live mit immer wieder neuen Situationen konfrontiert, die zwar durch ihre eigenen Handlungen ausgelöst von diesen aber nicht kontrolliert werden können.
Erst im Wechselspiel aus menschlichen und nichtmenschlichen Akteur:innen manifestiert sich die Performance mit jeder Aufführung neu.

The Third* acts between the performers' intentions. The performers are confronted with constantly changing situations triggered by their own actions, which they cannot control. The performance is manifested anew with each performance through the interplay between human and non-human actors.

Für die Wideraufnahme werden die pneumatischen Skulpturen überarbeitet und ihre Bedeutung für die Dramaturgie der Performances gestärkt.
Zentral im Licht der Projektoren plaziert, konfiguieren sie den Bühnenraum mit Verlauf der Performance immer wieder neu.
For this revision, the pneumatic sculptures have been reworked to strengthen their significance for the dramaturgy of the performances. Centrally placed in the light of the projectors, they continuously reconfigure the stage space throughout the performance.
